Whistler Peak2Peak Wedding

Catriona and John came out from Manchester in the UK and had a nice wedding on Whistler's Peak2Peak Gondola. Interestingly, it's my second wedding on the Peak2Peak in a row.

I was having a nice brunch last Saturday when I got a call from the groom, Eric. He said, "I'm getting married today at four, and we wondering if you could photograph our wedding?". Not having anything else to do that day, I said sure, it would be a pleasure.

Linda and Eric are a nice couple from Miami Florida who booked one of my small Elopement wedding packages. It was just them and their parents.

I do a lot of wedding in the Whistler area, but sometimes someone comes up with a location I've never been to. This is a feature just off the Valley Trail by Lakeside Park. It made for a great wedding location.

First Wedding of the Season

This is the first wedding of my 2010 summer season. Actually, it's the first one I've done since January, which is a break courtesy of the Olympic Games, which shut everything in town down for the entire winter. These guys were a lot of fun to work with, and really made for great photos.







Tech Stuff:
It was an overcast day with some light rain, which made for nice soft light, and not much need for any flash. The Edgewater Lodge is a great place to photograph a wedding, because it gives you a real range of locations and backgrounds, all within a short walk of the main lodge.

Out with the old, in with the new

It's one of those strange things, but web pages are like closets. The longer you go without cleaning them out, the more old junk you don't need accumulates to make it impossible to find the good stuff. That was definitely the case with the wedding section of my web page, with galleries going all the way back to 2002. Interesting, but not indicative of what I'm doing today. After spending the last few days doing a monumental edit, I've totally revamped the page. Here's the direct link to the page

Three Generations

This is a shot from Amanda and Trevor's wedding in Vancouver recently. While I like to think of myself as a more candid wedding photographer, I do find that great moments pop up in even the most staged of situations. This shot was taken during the family 'stand up' photo session, which is usually a bit of a chore for both the couple and the photographer. I wanted to get a shot of the couple, along with Amanda's mother, and their new baby, but just as I was setting it up, the baby started to cry, so all their attention moved from having their pic taken to calming the baby, and it was just the perfect moment. I have to say, I really like this shot.

Tech Stuff

I'm really loving this new Nikon D700.  The clarity and detail is amazing, and with the full frame coverage, you get great separation between the subject and the background.
